Glycol antifreeze and heat transfer fluid
Huchem supplies ethylene glycol and propylene glycol in concentrations from 30% to 100%, ready to use or as a concentrate for you to dilute. Our glycols are used as antifreeze and heat transfer fluids in heating systems, solar installations, heat pumps, cooling circuits, refrigeration systems and industrial processes, protecting your system against frost, corrosion and scale. Available in 5, 10 and 20 litre containers up to 1000 litre IBCs, with volume discounts for larger quantities.
What is glycol?
Glycols are clear, water-miscible liquids that lower the freezing point of water and raise its boiling point. Mixed with water in the right ratio, glycol keeps a closed system running in freezing conditions and, thanks to added corrosion inhibitors, keeps pipes, pumps and heat exchangers free from rust and limescale. Without glycol, a cooling or heating circuit exposed to frost can freeze, crack and fail.
Ethylene glycol or propylene glycol?
Ethylene glycol (MEG) offers the best thermal performance and the lowest viscosity, which makes it the first choice for closed industrial systems, cooling circuits and heat pumps where there is no contact with people, food or drinking water.
Propylene glycol (MPG) is non-toxic and is the safe choice wherever contact with food, drinking water or people is possible: food processing, breweries, dairies, solar thermal systems and underfloor heating in homes. Our propylene glycol Plus Food grade is suitable for the food industry.
Which concentration do you need?
The concentration determines the frost protection: 30% protects to around -13°C to -15°C, 40% to around -21°C, 50% to around -33°C, and 100% is a concentrate for you to mix yourself. All our ready-to-use mixtures are made with demineralised water and contain corrosion inhibitors. Not sure which glycol or concentration suits your system? Contact our team, we are happy to advise.
